Care to share an epic moment I found with Peter Rowan? Performing with Leftover Salmon? w/Sam Bush and John Cowan? Y2K New Years Eve, just before midnight?

They were on stage together that night. There was a Rocky Mtn y2k meltdown in Denver, when they played at the Fillmore. EPIC! 50 tunes that show! 1.5 GB of shortens.SBD is here

Trust me
Epic Moment = Stingray = Holy Crap!
Shorten file, 57 MB, Instrumental [9:20]

If you asked, "Can you gimme something Newgrass, so I can explore it and hopefully enjoy it? Can you do that, and put it in perspective here? Something that is smokin', with jams, improvisation, modern and innovative -- with Dead styled energy -- and put it in a timeless moment?"

Old and In The Way = Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Vassar Clements, Peter Rowan.

Newgrass = Peter Rowan, John Cowan, Leftover Salmon, and Sammy Bush.

Stingray

You can do a "save as" -- often invoked by a right-click of your mouse -- with the Shorten music file links, and point your browser to your music library where you save your music files. Then get the Shortin plug-in here Play it on your computer as a SHN file. I'm playin' shortens in WinAmp. Lots of stuff on e-tree is Lossless-Audio-only files, typically Shortens and Flac. For my i-pod, I decode the shortens and flacs down to waves using CD Tag. Then I use CD Tag to encode them into hi-fidelity VBR mp3s. It uses the LAME encoder. VBRs are what is streamed here on LMA for Dead-recorded shows from SBDs. The LAME encoder is the best way to go to MP3. Make sure your portable player plays VBRs (variable bit rate). My nano does.

The essential (imo) studio recording of Leftover Salmon is called The Nashville Sessions. Guest appearances abound (Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Taj Mahal, Lucinda Williams, Waylon Jennings, Del and Ronnie McCoury, Earl Scruggs) and some flat out great playing. LOS are great on their own, but this recording is ridiculous.

Thanks - I recently purchased Old & In The Way Breakdown. Just love bluegrass/newgrass. They have some good stuff on Archive under open source audio - check it out.

Peter Rowan is the omnipresent one, and when he's around there's usually something good happening. I recently DL'd an AUD recoding of Peter Rowan & Crucial Reggae over at Sugarmegs, and can't seem to get it off the Ipod. Even with the lousy lossy bitrate. Do y'alls self a favor and ease over there and grab it up...something very cool about the bluegrass reggae blend.

He Live's, I learned everything we need to know reading Zap Comics. The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers schooled me on the most timeless fact of life. Don't ya remember what Gilbert Shelton wrote?

I have seen Mr. bush several times over the years and he always puts on a VERY high energy show, I went and saw him probably 2 years ago in Macon Ga. there were only about 15 people there,he got up and RAGED for 2 hours!!! Being in Macon and Macon being the home of the Allmans always brings out tributes, well the ones he busted out were smokin. I believe he played whipping post and two others I cant remember the details but I remember thinking WOWZA!!! If you have never seen him live he is definitely a must see !!
